SYDNEY, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Police in the Australian state of Queensland have arrested 16 people following a four-month investigation into methamphetamine trafficking in Brisbane.
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) said in a statement on Tuesday that the investigation, which ran from January to May, resulted in 16 people being charged with more than 90 combined offenses relating to the trafficking and supply of dangerous drugs and the possession of weapons.
Over the course of the investigation, the QPS said police seized 1.6 kg of methamphetamine as well as cocaine and other drugs, a revolver handgun and over 16,000 Australian dollars (about 11,267.8 U.S. dollars) in cash.
Detective Inspector Sean Webster said that the investigation had significantly disrupted the local trafficking and supply of methamphetamine in Brisbane.
"Any prospective suppliers or traffickers are being put on notice that investigators will not rest until any detected supply chains are disrupted," he said.
Among those who were arrested during the investigation was a 38-year-old woman who was arrested at an inner-Brisbane address in May and subsequently charged with 11 counts of supplying dangerous drugs, which carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment for each count.
